Every week, patients from the US, UK, Australia and Southeast Asia arrive in Seoul with the same question: "My jawline is softening, my brow feels heavier, I don't want surgery. What should I actually do?" Ultherapy is usually the first name they have heard, and often the right answer, but not always. This guide, written by Liftique Dermatology in Sinsa, Gangnam, is for English-speaking patients weighing a trip to Korea for lifting or anti-aging treatment. It covers what Ultherapy does, how it compares with the other options you will be offered in Seoul, what a trip realistically looks like, and how to tell a serious clinic from a volume operation.
Ultherapy is available in London, New York and Sydney. Patients still fly to Seoul for three reasons.
The first is experience. Korea has one of the highest concentrations of aesthetic dermatologists in the world, and non-surgical lifting is a daily procedure rather than an occasional one. A dermatologist in Gangnam will typically have planned and performed far more Ultherapy, Thermage and injectable treatments than a counterpart in a general practice abroad. That experience shows up in treatment planning: where to place energy, where not to, and when to recommend something else.
The second is access to combination care in one place. In many Western clinics, Ultherapy, Thermage, fillers and collagen stimulators are spread across different providers. In Seoul you can have one dermatologist assess your face as a whole and build a plan that uses the right tool for each concern.
The third is cost. Ultherapy in Seoul is generally priced well below the US and UK for a comparable treatment, even after flights and accommodation. At Liftique Dermatology in Sinsa, Ultherapy Prime is priced transparently by shot count, from ₩500,000 for 100 shots to ₩3,600,000 for 1,000 shots (VAT separate), compared with commonly quoted US prices of roughly $3,000 to $6,000 for a full-face treatment.
Price is the reason most people first look at Korea. Experience and planning are the reasons they come back.
Before deciding on Ultherapy, it helps to understand what else a Seoul dermatologist may recommend. The main non-surgical options fall into three groups.
Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound to reach the SMAS layer and lift. Best for brow, jawline, under-chin and neck laxity.
Thermage FLX uses radiofrequency to heat the dermis broadly and tighten skin texture. Best for crepey or loose skin across the face, eyelids and body, and often paired with Ultherapy.
Volume treatments such as hyaluronic acid filler, Sculptra and Radiesse restore structural support where fat and bone have thinned: cheeks, temples, chin, jawline. For many patients over 45, what reads as "sagging" is partly volume loss, and no amount of tightening will fix that on its own.
Thread lifting and skin boosters sit alongside these, but the three groups above cover the decisions most international patients face. The best result usually comes from the right combination rather than from choosing one device and hoping it does everything.
Ultherapy delivers micro-focused ultrasound to precise depths beneath the skin: 4.5 mm (the SMAS layer), 3.0 mm (deep dermis) and 1.5 mm (superficial dermis). Each pulse creates a tiny thermal coagulation point. Over the following weeks the body builds new collagen around these points, and the tissue gradually tightens and lifts.
Because energy is focused below the surface, the skin itself is not injured. There is no wound and no surface laser damage, which is why Ultherapy is a single-session, low-downtime treatment.
Ultherapy is FDA-cleared to lift the brow, the submental area and the neck, and to improve lines on the décolletage. Liftique uses Ultherapy Prime, the current-generation platform, which adds sharper real-time imaging and faster, more comfortable energy delivery than earlier systems.
Ultherapy works best for patients with early to moderate laxity who want a conservative, natural improvement. Typical candidates are in their late 30s to 60s and notice a softening jawline, early jowls, a heavier brow, or loose skin under the chin and on the neck. They want to avoid surgery, general anesthesia and visible downtime.
Ultherapy is a poor first choice when the main concern is hollowing in the cheeks, temples or under-eyes, when sagging is advanced, or when skin is very thin. In those cases a responsible dermatologist will recommend volume restoration first, a combined plan, or in some cases a surgical consultation rather than selling an ultrasound session that will disappoint.
These are the two treatments international patients most often ask us to compare, and they do different jobs.
Ultherapy lifts. It reaches the deep SMAS layer and is the stronger choice for brow position, jawline definition and under-chin tightening.
Thermage tightens and smooths. It treats the dermis more broadly and is the stronger choice for skin quality, crepiness, eyelid skin and larger body areas.
Many patients benefit from both, either at the same visit or spaced a few weeks apart. The decision depends on where your laxity sits, not on which device has the better reputation that year.
Most international patients plan around two to three days in Seoul, though same-day consultation and treatment is possible.
Before your trip, you contact Liftique in English by email or WhatsApp (+82 10-8078-3829) with your concerns and preferred dates. We confirm availability, explain the likely treatment and send a price guide. A deposit by PayPal secures the appointment.
On treatment day, Dr. Won examines your face in person, discusses what Ultherapy can and cannot do for you, and maps the treatment zones and shot count. Numbing cream and pain management are applied, then the Ultherapy Prime treatment itself takes about 20 to 40 minutes depending on the shot count and areas chosen. Please allow 2.5 to 3 hours for the full visit, which includes consultation, consent, numbing time, the treatment and LDM/LED aftercare.
Afterwards you are free to go. Most patients walk out, have dinner in Gangnam and fly home within a day or two. No follow-up visit is required. We stay in contact by email or WhatsApp for any questions after you return home.
Immediately after treatment the skin may be slightly flushed. Mild swelling is common and can last one to two weeks; some patients also notice tenderness or a bruised sensation along the jaw for a few days. Makeup can be worn the same day and normal activities, including flying, resume immediately.
Lifting develops gradually. Early firmness is often noticed at four to six weeks, with the full result at two to three months as collagen matures. The result is subtle and natural. The aim is to look rested and defined, not visibly treated.
Duration varies with age, skin quality and lifestyle. Many patients choose to repeat Ultherapy every 12 to 18 months to maintain their result. That is a personal choice made at follow-up, not an obligation.
Liftique prices Ultherapy Prime by the number of shots delivered, not by vague "area" packages, so you know exactly what you are paying for. Most full-face treatments fall between 300 and 600 shots. The exact shot count is planned at consultation based on your anatomy and goals; the figures below are the current rates.
LDM and LED aftercare are included with face treatments (excluding the 1.5 mm tip eye treatment and body treatments). A 10% VAT is added to the prices above. Prices are current at the time of writing and may change; the exact figure is confirmed in writing before your appointment.
Seoul has hundreds of clinics offering Ultherapy, and pricing ranges enormously. A few questions worth asking before booking anywhere, including here:
Who performs the treatment, a board-certified dermatologist or a delegated staff member? Is the device genuine Ultherapy with authentic transducers? Is the shot count planned for your anatomy, or is it a fixed package? Will you see the same doctor at consultation, treatment and follow-up?
Very low prices almost always mean reduced shots, delegated treatment or non-genuine transducers. Ultherapy is operator-dependent. A well-planned treatment by an experienced dermatologist will outperform a rushed one with more shots.

For most patients, yes, if they are already considering the treatment. Korean dermatologists perform lifting procedures at high volume, combination care is available under one roof, and pricing is generally lower than in the US or UK even after travel costs.
At Liftique Dermatology in Sinsa, Gangnam, Ultherapy Prime is priced by shot count: ₩500,000 for 100 shots, ₩1,350,000 for 300 shots, ₩1,600,000 for 400 shots, ₩2,200,000 for 600 shots, and up to ₩3,600,000 for 1,000 shots (all VAT separate). The 1.5 mm tip for eye area, forehead and neck lines is ₩1,000,000 for 200 shots. Body areas (arms, thighs, abdomen) are priced separately. The right shot count is decided at consultation.
It depends on the areas treated and the degree of laxity. Most full-face treatments fall between 300 and 600 shots. The shot count is planned by Dr. Won at consultation, not sold as a fixed package. A larger number of shots is not automatically better; placement and depth matter more.
The treatment itself takes about 20 to 40 minutes. Including consultation, consent and numbing, plan for 2.5 to 3 hours at the clinic.
Yes. There is no required follow-up visit and no restriction on flying. Mild swelling may last one to two weeks but does not affect travel.
Ultherapy produces deep warmth with brief sharper sensations as each shot is delivered. With numbing cream and pain management it is well tolerated. Discomfort ends when the treatment ends.
One. Results build over two to three months. Some patients repeat every 12 to 18 months to maintain their lift.
Ultherapy lifts deeper tissue (brow, jawline, neck). Thermage tightens skin texture over larger areas. Many patients benefit from both, and the right choice depends on where your laxity sits.
Often, yes. Volume treatments and Ultherapy address different problems and can be planned together. Timing is decided at consultation.
No. Consultation, consent and aftercare at Liftique are available in English.
Ultherapy has been FDA-cleared since 2009 with an established safety profile when performed by a trained physician. Temporary side effects include redness, swelling and tenderness. Rare side effects such as nerve irritation or bruising are minimized by careful depth selection and real-time imaging.
